It was the first game back after Christmas and most of the team were suffering with colds and recovering from flu and the usual Christmas over-indulgence!!! This didn’t stop the squad of 8 from securing their first victory of 2011.
This week they beat Fillies with their biggest win to date, 75-12. It was a good start for Phantoms with Isobel Dean playing Centre. With thanks to defensive duo D.Thomas, GD, and Tracey Horner, GK, Phantoms stormed ahead to finish the first quarter 18-4.
With brilliant shooting and communication Laura Harris, GS, and Alicia Lugg, GA, scored another 15 goals and Phantoms extended the lead to 33-6. With a change in positions for Debbie Reed from WA to WD and a substitution to take off injured Felicity O’Leary, WD, and bring on Captain Hayley Waldridge, WA, Phantoms continued the climb and scored a whopping 19 goals ending the third quarter 52-10.
Fillies fought back hard in the last quarter with a few good interceptions but Phantoms played to the final whistle and scored another 23 goals, with the final score 75-12.
This leaves them 11 points clear at the top of the table and still unbeaten.
