Harrogate Phoenix slumped to only their second regional league defeat against a strong Leeds Carnegie side.
The match started at a fast past, with both teams scoring from their centre passes. Leeds then built some momentum to open a lead, only to be reined-in by Phoenix after some timely interceptions from the circle defence team of Vicky Heap (GK) and Lizzie Hughes (GD). Phoenix remained in touch at first quarter time, with Leeds holding an 11-9 advantage.
Phoenix started the second quarter brightly with some neat passing through centre court from Zoe Hannah (C) and Emma McAra (WA). These fluent moves were ably converted by Steph Davies (GA) and Danielle Collings (GS). However, Leeds rallied and began playing some fast, expansive netball, which stretched their lead to seven goals at half time.
The third quarter began as the second had finished, with Leeds in charge. Their shooting throughout the match was excellent, leaving Phoenix with few opportunities to turnover possession. Leeds led by 12 at the end of the third quarter and by seventeen at the end of the match. Phoenix put in a decent performance, but were beaten by the stronger team on the day.
