Harrogate Phoenix 35 - 32 Wyke Yorkshire and Humberside Regional League

Harrogate Phoenix worked hard to ensure their debut in the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional League ended in victory against Humberside team Wyke.

The game started at a fast pace, with both teams conceding possession early on. Phoenix took the initiative and edged ahead 9-7 at quarter time, thanks to some accurate shooting from Emma McAra (GS). Phoenix continued to out-play their opponents in the second quarter. This was achieved as a result of some tight defensive play from the trio of Zoe Hannah (WD), Lizzie Hughes (GD) and Vicky Heap (GK).

Their efforts brought about a number of turnovers via the three-second rule, which were ably converted by player of the match Steph Davies (GA). By half time Phoenix had maintained their narrow lead, 16-13.

The third quarter was very close, with Wyke determined to reduce their deficit. To their credit Phoenix were not put off by their opponent’s renewed efforts and continued to play smart netball, making sensible progress down the court courtesy of George Radcliffe (C) and Cath Hudson (WA).

This style of play continued into the final quarter and although Wyke managed to draw level at one point, Phoenix used their experience to regain control of the game and secure a hard-fought victory, 35-32.
