Phoenix Ferns met their Harrogate rivals in this North Yorkshire Division 1 clash.
The initial exchanges were tense, with both sides squandering possession on a number of occasions. Phoenix opened a three-goal lead, only to be pegged-back to finish the first quarter all-square 7-7.
Phoenix settled in the second quarter and found their shooting form, courtesy of Danielle Collings (GS) and Steph Davies (GA). This allowed Phoenix to open a three-goal advantage to lead 19-16 at half time.
This was consolidated in the third, with some solid play from Emma Hayter (WD), Zoe Hannah (C) and Emma McAra (WA) in centre court. Phoenix could only manage to add one further goal to their lead, coming in at the end of the third quarter 27-23.
The game remained close and at time edgy, in the final quarter, some excellent rebounding and interceptions from the defensive pairing of Lizzie Hughes (GD) and Vicky Heap (GK) kept Phoenix in the game. HiLites managed to level the score at one point, only for Phoenix to regain the lead and secure the victory by two goals 37-35.
This win avenged an earlier League defeat to HiLites, with the local bragging rights to be decided by a Cup match in March.
