About Us

In July 2006, with the new Competitive structure for Netball replacing the County set up, a group of Netballers in Harrogate got together. Christine Stephen, Carole Fozard, Patsy Russell, Kate Harper and Shauna Mulligan were the founder members of Phoenix Netball Club. Having been involved at County level and instrumental in setting up the North Yorkshire County Junior teams and encompassing them into the Senior County set up they decided to pool their energies and establish a Netball Club for all ages. The new Club was born; an amalgamation of several teams – Ringers, Vets, Phoenix and Harrogate players from the North Yorkshire County Junior squads.

In 2007-08 the Committee was extended, paperwork and policies refined and applications for firstly Bronze and then Silver CAPS Accreditation were successfully submitted.

The Development Plan for the Club initially centred around Junior players. This was to ensure the Club’s future and also to create a clear player pathway that is in line with the preferred structure by England Netball.

In order to do this, we needed funding and an application to the Big Lottery was submitted in September 2007 for a grant through the Awards for All Scheme. The funding was earmarked solely for Junior players and the training of others ( e.g. coach education etc) to enable the project to be sustainable in the future. Our application was successful and we received a total of £9705.

Harrogate Phoenix Netball Club was born in a back yard! Today, it is growing into something great and very exciting and that is all thanks to EVERY single member!!
